The Anyoji settlement in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture—a snow country. Located along Japan's largest river, the Shinano, this region sees several meters of snowfall in winter and has long been known for rice farming and textiles. The Furusawa Residence, which has watched over this settlement for over 150 years since the late Edo period, has been reborn as “The Snow House,” welcoming just one group per day. We aim to be a lodging where guests can experience with all five senses the way of life adapted to and utilizing snow, a way of life developed by the people of this snow country. To allow guests to experience the wisdom of the snow country, we have implemented the following features: ・While repairing the building and adding necessary modern conveniences where needed, we have preserved its original appearance as much as possible so guests can feel the breath of the former residents' lives. ・We serve breakfast using local ingredients and recipes, allowing guests to experience the snow country's food culture, developed to endure long, snowbound winters. ・We offer various activities where guests can interact with local people and experience the daily life of a snow country. Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, is a town where the “original landscape of Japan” remains vividly preserved. It breathes with seasonal landscapes and culture, such as the beautiful terraced rice fields of “Hoshidōge no Tanada” and the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale,” where art and nature merge. Winter brings fantastical snowy scenery, spring the fresh green of the satoyama, summer clear streams and fireflies, and autumn golden rice ears and autumn leaves. Through your stay, you can feel the unique richness of a snow country where nature and people coexist. Experience a journey like living in a snow house. 《Overview》 Limited to one group per day, allowing you to use most of the traditional house's space. Welcome to Guesthouse Hinataboko. It is an old private house with an old shoin building, but it is a quiet and calm inn. You can see the dam below, and it is located in a mountain rich in nature where you can see the beautiful starry sky at night. It is located right from National Route 19, but there is a temple called Aragamido nearby, and you can see cute raccoons. It takes about 40 minutes to get to Hakuba through the Hakuba Hidaka Tunnel. The Togakushi direction is 1 hour. It takes 20 minutes to reach Zenkoji Temple and Nagano city. It is 30 minutes to Nagano Interchange, making it a good base for sightseeing in Nagano. There is a river nearby, and it is recommended to walk the river, trek in Jinbadaira, and climb Mt. Mushikura in Shinshu Nakajo. 【Accommodation】 The place where you will stay will be next to the main house where our family lives. The 10-mat two-room room, veranda, toilet, and kitchenette are available for private use. There is also a separate entrance, so you can enter and exit without hesitation to us in the main house. The bathroom is located in the main house so it will be shared with us. [Guest entry range] Please feel free to use the first floor of the detachment. The kitchenette and toilet that double as a washroom are private. Please refrain from entering the main house except for the bathroom. 【Notes】 Parking is available on site. Due to the narrow access road, a regular car is preferable. If you are coming by a large vehicle such as a camper, please contact us in advance. There is a cat in the main house. We have taken care not to enter the guest room, but please understand before staying. We will do our best to make your stay even better. If you have any questions, please contact us in advance.
