The Anyoji settlement in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture—a snow country. Located along Japan's largest river, the Shinano, this region sees several meters of snowfall in winter and has long been known for rice farming and textiles. The Furusawa Residence, which has watched over this settlement for over 150 years since the late Edo period, has been reborn as “The Snow House,” welcoming just one group per day. We aim to be a lodging where guests can experience with all five senses the way of life adapted to and utilizing snow, a way of life developed by the people of this snow country. To allow guests to experience the wisdom of the snow country, we have implemented the following features: ・While repairing the building and adding necessary modern conveniences where needed, we have preserved its original appearance as much as possible so guests can feel the breath of the former residents' lives. ・We serve breakfast using local ingredients and recipes, allowing guests to experience the snow country's food culture, developed to endure long, snowbound winters. ・We offer various activities where guests can interact with local people and experience the daily life of a snow country. Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, is a town where the “original landscape of Japan” remains vividly preserved. It breathes with seasonal landscapes and culture, such as the beautiful terraced rice fields of “Hoshidōge no Tanada” and the “Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale,” where art and nature merge. Winter brings fantastical snowy scenery, spring the fresh green of the satoyama, summer clear streams and fireflies, and autumn golden rice ears and autumn leaves. Through your stay, you can feel the unique richness of a snow country where nature and people coexist. Experience a journey like living in a snow house. 《Overview》 Limited to one group per day, allowing you to use most of the traditional house's space. The Shoya Mansion of the former Himeji Domain, which looks like the back room of Himeji Castle, is located in Fukusaki, north of Himeji, famous for the legend of yokai. This 400-year-old mansion is said to have been built in 1601, and eight years older than Himeji Castle, is also the birthplace of Kokuni Tetsujuro, a local hero who once helped farmers in the Harita Rebellion. It is also a building that contributed to regional medical care from the Meiji era to the Showa era, and there are exhibits that remind you of the past, such as old medical books, signboards, and house call bags from that time. The spacious and private space, which has been renovated to preserve the old pillars and beams of the Edo period, has introduced the latest equipment, and fused with modern comforts, and is furnished with chairs, chests of drawers, and other furniture that we had in our house, a semi-open-air cypress bath, sunlight shining through shoji screens, and a calm Japan garden. In the garden in the common area, guests can also enjoy BBQ. * The space where you can feel the history of 400 years ago is enough to see the huge beams in the store of "Seasonal Tamatebox Amami" next to the accommodation. There is also an exhibition of rickshaws that were used for house calls. In addition, you can enjoy cultural experiences such as tea ceremony, ikebana, kimono dressing, yoga, flower arrangement, aroma massage, foot massage, and even earthen wall restoration. On the premises, there is a bakery using natural yeast, an oriental aroma salon, an organic flower shop, sea bream soba noodles, a sea bream restaurant, a casual Japanese restaurant, etc. It's a place where you can travel back in time, unwind in nature and stay as if you were living here. 25 minutes by car ・・・・・ Himeji Castle, 25 minutes by train from JR Fukusaki → Himeji, 17 minutes by limited express Himeji Central Park 25 minutes by car Taiyo Park・・・・ 30 minutes by car
