The Anyoji settlement in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture—a snow country. Located along Japan's largest river, the Shinano, this region sees several meters of snowfall in winter and has long been known for rice farming and textiles. The Furusawa Residence, which has watched over this settlement for over 150 years since the late Edo period, has been reborn as “The Snow House,” welcoming just one group per day. We aim to be a lodging where guests can experience with all five senses the way of life adapted to and utilizing snow, a way of life developed by the people of this snow country. To allow guests to experience the wisdom of the snow country, we have implemented the following features: ・While repairing the building and adding necessary modern conveniences where needed, we have preserved its original appearance as much as possible so guests can feel the breath of the former residents' lives. ・We serve breakfast using local ingredients and recipes, allowing guests to experience the snow country's food culture, developed to endure long, snowbound winters. ・We offer various activities where guests can interact with local people and experience the daily life of a snow country.
