Guests especially appreciate the harmonious blend of traditional Japanese architecture with modern interior design. Two bedrooms are available: one Japanese-style and one Western-style. The 12.5-tatami living room includes a wood-burning fireplace and a large couch sofa. Free Wi-Fi is available. The dining room features 100-year-old antique furniture from England, offering a unique fusion of Japanese and Western styles. The adjacent 10.5-tatami Japanese room features a tokonoma alcove, built-in shelves, and traditional shoin-style design. Up to six futons can be laid out at night. The Western-style bedroom features tatami flooring, plaster walls, shoji screens, and washi paper lighting, creating a calming Japanese-modern atmosphere. The former horse stable has been renovated into a washroom and toilet. The low ceiling height enhances the authentic charm of a traditional Japanese farmhouse. The Anyoji settlement in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture—a snow country. Located along Japan's largest river, the Shinano, this region sees several meters of snowfall in winter and has long been known for rice farming and textiles. The Furusawa Residence, which has watched over this settlement for over 150 years since the late Edo period, has been reborn as “The Snow House,” welcoming just one group per day. We aim to be a lodging where guests can experience with all five senses the way of life adapted to and utilizing snow, a way of life developed by the people of this snow country.
